Introduction to solvent transfers

Solvent transfers are a more specialized variety of transfer labels that is used primarily on only rubber or PVC materials. In particular, solvent transfers are especially effective on un-vulcanized rubber surfaces as the label undergoes the vulcanization process together with its host product that ensures a very permanent, lasting and high quality print.

In essence, solvent transfers differs from the other types of transfers that we provide in that it is activated through the use of appropriate solvent in order to release the label onto the print surface. In order to do this, the solvent transfer could either be dipped into the solvent solution and then subsequently placed on the material or the solvent could be pressed on a solvent coated surface.

The majority of manufacturers that employs the use of our solvent transfers are safety rubber boots and swimwear manufacturers that seek to brand their products for easier consumer recognition. Similarly, solvent transfers are also applicable to other rubber or PVC products.

  • Clean thoroughly the desired surface of product that requires the label or print into a smooth clean surface.

  • Apply solvent mixture onto the product surface either with brush or cloth. Make sure that the subsequent solvent coating is evenly spread.

  • Place the transfer 'face-up' on the desired surface of application and press gently on the print label to ensure complete contact with the solvent.

  • Allow for a few minutes (depending on the type of print) for the solvent and transfer to dry.

  • Carefully peel off the transfer paper to reveal the desired label print attached on the product surface.
For un-vulcanized rubber products, vulcanization process must be undertaken to bond the ink of the print onto the host material (Please consult with us for appropriate specification needs for your particular product material).
